Hello! My name is Dana G., and I am a New York state certified teacher with teaching, coaching and tutoring experience. I teach theatre/acting K-12, and I taught test preparation classes for the Princeton Review (SAT, SSAT and NY state teacher certification exams). I was also an SAT tutor for the Princeton Review. I coach high school students and adults for audition preparation for theatre and TV/film, and can tape auditions to be submitted. I also coached students in the NYU Youth Ensemble on Shakespeare monologues in a graduate school Shakespeare class. I have a Master's degree (M.A). from NYU in educational theatre and a B.A. in theatre and psychology from Vanderbilt University. I am naturally very strong in math and test taking.
I have been working with and for young people for 20+ years. In addition to the experience in the above paragraph, I have been a figure skating teacher's aide, a nanny, a babysitter and a camp counselor. I was also a co-leader for a Project Sunshine volunteer group at Elizabeth Seton Pediatric Center where I managed volunteers and lead activities for medically fragile children with complex conditions and disabilities. I pride myself on my communications skills and my ability to connect with students and help them succeed.
I pursued acting for about five years after college, and I have work experience in theatre and film. Then I wrote, produced and edited digital content for Girls Incorporated and Nickelodeon. I still do some freelance writing work and enjoy dramatic writing. After 10 years in the digital world, I felt it was time for a change. I wanted to work directly with young people, and I found the NYU educational theatre program and it just clicked. I graduated this past May, and have had three job offers. The first two I declined and the third I accepted. Unfortunately, on my first day of work, the school and I discovered there was a hiring freeze so now I am in a holding pattern.
Whether I am re-hired or not, I am excited to be a tutor again. You will not regret hiring me. I am more than happy to provide my resume, references, recommendations and teaching philosophy.
