Hi! My name is Nick. I've been an active vocal performer, who's toured nationally and internationally, and even been featured on a TV show with my group the Beelzebubs. I studied music throughout college, and (unlike many people) I actually *love* music theory and history, and I love to teach it to people. I also have 2 years' teaching experience in a public school classroom. I'm excited to work with you on any area of music you need to improve!

Music Theory

I am highly trained at Music Theory, from my coursework as a music student at Tufts University, and from my own experiences as an active performer. I can teach advanced classical tonal theory, pop music theory, and basic atonal theory.

Ear Training

I am skilled and experienced at ear training. In addition to the coursework (ear training labs) I've taken at Tufts University, I developed my ear training as a piano student (12 years) and a classical voice student (4 years). I further developed my ear training skills as Musical Director of the Beelzebubs, a vocal group that competed and placed 2nd on a nationally televised competition show.

General Music

I am versatile musician, highly trained in a variety of music disciplines. I have studied piano (12 years) and voice (4 years, collegiate level), and I was Musical Director (2 years) of a renowned vocal group that placed 2nd on a nationally televised competition show. I graduated magna cum laude with a degree in music from Tufts University, where I excelled at studying a wide range of music disciplines, including music theory and history, and culminating with a year-long research project.

Music History

I graduated magna cum laude with a degree in music from Tufts University, where I excelled at music history. In terms of related coursework, I successfully completed 12 music history courses at Tufts, which includes 8 upper-level seminars. I culminated my undergraduate career with a year-long research project in which I analyzed the revisions of an 18th century French opera, which involved working with facsimiles of original 18th century scores. Piano

I formally studied classical piano for 12 consecutive years, beginning at the age of 6. I was an active accompanist for 8 years, including 3 years as a paid accompanist for a vocal studio at Tufts University. In addition to my formal classical training, I have a highly developed ear and can play just about any song I hear on the radio after just one listening. I am also familiar with reading jazz lead sheets, and I am an excellent sight-reader.

Sight Singing

I am an exceptional vocal sight-reader. For both years I was eligible in high school, I qualified for the IMEA Illinois state choir. I studied classical voice in college for several years. Also, as Musical Director of a renowned vocal ensemble for 2 years, I regularly sight-read music to teach the group in rehearsal. In terms of coursework, I have successfully completed 3 semesters of ear-training labs that included sight-singing.

Voice (Music)

I have been singing in choirs since the age of 6, including several choral ensembles at the high school and collegiate level. For four years, I was a singer and featured soloist of a renowned vocal ensemble that placed 2nd on a nationally televised competition show, and I have professionally recorded several albums with this group.
