Philosophy should be a joy not a struggle, after all, the Greek word philosophia is literally translated as "love of wisdom". This has been my attitude both in tutoring students in philosophy, as well as in my own research. Over the years I have found that many students struggle because they see philosophy as some sort of distant and arcane practice, but in reality, nothing could be further from the truth. It's my goal to bring this subject back to life in the minds and imaginations of students by presenting the material in practical and easily understood modern language.
I'm currently getting my PHd in philosophy at The New School for Social Research; my areas of interest include (but are not limited to) Ancient Greek philosophy, medieval Jewish philosophy, modern philosophy (with a focus on Spinoza), classical American pragmatism, and logic. I have been tutoring students in philosophy since my undergraduate studies, and wish to continue helping any individual looking to become better acquainted with philosophy or philosophical literature.
I have been playing and studying guitar for 10 years now. I have spent a great deal of time both in formal study of music (through private tutors as well as studying jazz at the college level at the Hartt School of music) as well as playing with many bands and musicians over the years in a verity of styles from gypsy jazz to heavy metal.
I have taught guitarists of all levels, ages, and styles always with a focus on the student's own musical passions. I want to teach people how to play the music they love, and give them the tools and freedom to play and create both the music they listen to, and the music they would like to listen to.
I have been playing guitar for 10 years and piano for 15, for my entire musical career, I have placed strong reliance on my understanding of music theory. I see, and have always seen, music theory not as an abstract, dry, mathematical concept, but rather a language and a tool that we can all use to become more imaginative, and more expressive musicians.
I studied music theory and jazz guitar at the Hartt School of Music, and currently work on several musical projects in rock, blues and jazz.
