Hello WyzAnt Students,

I'm Emmanuel, friends call me Manny! I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Brooklyn College with a BFA in Acting, BA in TV and Radio Production and BFA in Creative Writing. I was a college-level Writing Tutor at the Brooklyn College Learning Center. I have a great eye for detail and my Creative Writing training makes my students' tutoring experience fun and imaginative.

My personal writing leans mostly toward Playwriting and Screenwriting, but I have experience with various forms and genres. Although I utilize colorful language and rhetoric, my personal writing is strongly informed by my extensive background in academic writing and non-fiction composition.

Please bear in mind that I have knowledge and experience in a wide spectrum of topics, so take a look at my subjects and feel free to email me any questions! I look forwarding to hearing from you!

I have a Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing and have published two Thesis papers, one for Film Theory and the other for Acting. I am a native speaker of English and as an actor, have great familiarity with the English language both as a text and a spoken language.

As a college-level writing tutor, I've worked one-on-one with many ESL students and have had them grow as writers.

Macintosh

Since my 7th grade Computers class (12 years ago now), I have been a loyal Macintosh user. Throughout my college career, I have composed dozens and dozens of papers, edited a handful of films and sound projects on my trusty MacBook.

My personal, everyday computer is a MacBook Pro--I know more Macintosh shortcut commands than most people know regular commands. I'm very confident that I could assist anyone who is having trouble getting the hang of Macs.

Microsoft Word

My work as a writer and recently full-time college student has made me very familiar with Microsoft Word, if not an expert.

As a person who highly values expediency and efficiency, I have great facility with various functions in this software as well as the shortcut keyboard commands to access them as quickly as possible.

My college coursework and current personal writing like plays and screenplays and transcriptions, involved and involve a great deal of editing and adjusting large amounts of text or making mass changes to a text quickly. I've honed these such skills to an art, haha.

I will also note aptitude in adjusting document formatting and tabs.

Proofreading

I have a Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing and have published two Thesis papers, one for Film Theory and the other for Acting.

My proofreading skills were truly put to the test while writing and editing my 60-some-odd page Film theory Thesis paper and then 50-some-odd Acting Thesis. For the past year, I was a college-level writing tutor, which involved catching errors and typos the normal eye would wash over.

I'm also currently interning with production companies. This work often includes transcribing interview footage, which requires an eye for detail similar to a proofreading eye.

Public Speaking

I have a Fine Arts degree in Acting. my acting program included voice and movement training, as well as speech and diction training. Because of my speech training, I'm very familiar with the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), and so I can assist my students in cleaning up an accent or encouraging clearer, cleaner diction.

I have invaluable experience as a stage and screen actor. Public Speaking is my career one could say.

Theatre

I have a Fine Arts degree in Acting. However, my acting program included many interdisciplinary aspects. I've acted in many stage productions and a few short films. I've seen many, many theater productions. As an active member of the NY theater community, I would be fit to tutor this subject.

Video Production

I have a degree in TV and radio production, and I have written and produced a handful of film projects. Over this past summer, I was a Film Teaching Assistant for SOCAPA, a summer camp for international teens. There, I assisted them hands-on at their shoots and in the editing room.

I have taken college-level coursework relevant to this subject in field production (video) and radio production.

My software proficiency includes Final Cut Pro and ProTools.

Vocabulary

I have a Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing. While studying poetry, as well as dramatic writing, I learned the value of a rich vocabulary through creative expression. I've also learned a similar lesson as an actor by working with various texts and scripts that use different modes of language and vocabulary levels.

Not only can I help my students with dictionary and thesaurus skills, but I can show them, through imaginative examples or lexical deconstruction, the practical difference between similar words, and how to expertly use unique ones.
