My name is Ashley P. and I am currently attending college at New York City College of Technology. Even though I lack a teaching degree, I have been teaching since elementary school. I have been helping students in my grade level or lower at the tender age of seven years old. I still tutor students up to this day, but I prefer to stick to where I excel
In elementary school I always received a 4 on my City Wide exams, and in Jr high I was placed in accelerated math classes. In high school I was still taking accelerated math, and I passed the Math A and B regents
to graduate with an Advanced Regents Diploma. Currently, in college, if anyone I know is struggling with math they come to me for help, and they always make great strides in their schoolwork. My students excel two or three grades higher after meeting with me for tutoring sessions GUARANTEED.
My approach to teaching is that everyone learns at a different pace and it is priority to embrace that fact. First, I see where the student is having trouble. Then, I analyze their area of difficulty and break everything down into the simplest terms. I explain it verbally and walk them through practice problems step by step before assigning them work. I also, show my students more than one way to do the problem and how to check it to make sure their answer is correct. Once a student grasps the concept we move on to working in a test like setting where they gain the ability to solve problems in a decent time frame. This helps to re-create a school testing environment, and gives the student less stress when actually taking the real test because they know that they can complete it without running out of time. This technique gives a student knowledge and confidence, which in return increases their grades.
I am so confident in my tutoring ability that I am willing to work for $35 for the first two sessions that I work with a student. I want to show you that you are not wasting your child's time, or your money. I am worth every penny, and will work hard to see that your child succeeds. Failure is not an option.
