A published writer, an MFA graduate of the Iowa Writers' Workshop, a publisher, and an experienced educator, I help students and adults with all areas of English and writing, including college essays, course assignments, reading comprehension, vocabulary building, creative writing, proofreading, and more.
I cater my lesson plans to the individual students, focusing on their strengths, and figuring out unique ways for them to become organized, capable readers and writers. I am a patient, enthusiastic, and dedicated tutor, and my teaching style is dynamic and interactive, drawing upon each student's curiosity and individual learning style.
As an educator, I have taught college students at The University of Iowa as well as K-12 students in areas including literature, creative writing, reading, and ESL. As a writer and publisher, I have many years of experience working for publishing companies and magazines, writing for publications, and running my own publishing company. I have excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills combined with the teaching experience to pass these skills on to you.
I am also available to help students prepare for standardized tests, such as the SAT, ACT and GRE, particularly the verbal and writing sections. I scored an 800 on my SAT Verbal exam, and can draw on my experience preparing for the test to help students improve their scores. I also worked as a scorer of ACT essays, so I have a good sense of what they are looking for in high scoring essays.
I am excited to work with students of any age as well as business professionals and adult learners of English. In addition to helping students improve their skills, I hope to foster in students a love of reading and writing that will stay with them as they continue on their paths.
