I have experience in the area of cooking. Aside from the fact that I aced home ec. in high school, I also had the opportunity to help mentally disabled adults learn the technique of cooking. Once a week I, myself along with a partner set up in the kitchen where we would experiment with different recipes and ways to go about making delicious meals with the help of our consumers.
Through my experience of teaching 2nd, 4th, (as well as 7th, 8th and 9th grade), I have come to conclude that this age, K-6, is the key time period for students to grow and build their social and academic skills. I am confident that I will be able to promote strong academic and social development of children throughout early and middle childhood. I will provide meaningful learning experiences and help children develop the necessary skills to succeed later in life. I will assist children in applying important aspects of vital subjects such as English, mathematics and science.
For many years, I have been working with the special needs community. I taught everyday skills to the downs syndrome girl whom I worked with, such as handling money and working on her social skills. I was also privileged to work in an adult day habilitation center, Human Care Services, for developmentally delayed adults.Working in the day hab allowed me the opportunity to deal with many challenges that developmentally delayed adults go through such as manic depression, bipolar and mental retardation amongst others.
