I am currently completing Masters Degree in Childhood Education and Teacher Certification as well as pursuing certification as an educational therapist. The professional development training I have received in the Orton Gillingham approach and other remediation methods for struggling readers makes me a helpful ally to my students, working with them to realize their potential as strong students. I am an experienced reading, vocabulary, spelling and creative writing tutor as well as a certified children's yoga instructor. This background helps me to take a holistic view to education and be a compassionate observant educator. I have worked with students with learning disabilities and look for ways to accommodate different learning styles with my teaching strategies.
Educational Philosophy: The poet Mary Oliver provided the following lessons for living a life: “Pay attention. Be astonished. Tell about it.” These three simple instructions shape my teaching philosophy. A teacher models positive behavior and creates achievable tasks for students with the best interest of the student’s cognitive and emotional growth paramount in mind.
A good teacher is humble and flexible seeking mentors and learning from mistakes as well as victories, considering obstacles to be stepping stones.
I believe in the transformation in a student’s life that a conscious, caring teacher can have and aim to instill in my students the sense of wonder and illumination that paying attention to the rich multifaceted world around us can foster. With this simply philosophy in mind, I aim to encourage creativity and expression in students as well as enthusiasm for learning inside and outside of the classroom.
