I am an Ivy League educated celebrant of language in all its forms with a specialty in Latin and English. I believe that any language is best acquired through hands-on exercises, with an inspired excitement for all its workings (even the boring charts) and a view of the current lesson in the context of the whole system of the particular language. I bring passion to my lessons, approaching topics such as verb conjugation, noun declension, and sentence composition from multiple different angles, so that the student doesn't just learn to parrot words from a chart or construct formulaic sentences, but actually gains a fun, thorough understanding encapsulating all the generative elements necessary to fluency.
I studied graduate Latin at the University of Pennsylvania in their Post-Baccalaureate program before deciding to forgo an entire graduate education in the language. This has not hindered me in my own personal reading of the material at home. I also have a Bachelor of Arts in English, Latin, and Philosophy from Western Michigan University, where I graduated in three years and summa cum laude. I am certified through Oxford University to teach English as a Second Language. Through the certification process, we were given many opportunities to exercise our teaching ability both in front of the class and with outside volunteers. I am patient, personable, and have a passion for my subjects which will be seen in the effects upon my pupils.
So, be in touch! I look forward to meeting any prospective students!
