I am believe first and foremost in the power of a creative mind. I grew up in an environment that cultivated an artistic mindset. This has shaped me into a successful musician and writer, and I am eager to pass my skill sets onto those in need. My primary schooling has been involved in music. I earned my B.A in Music (jazz) from Florida State University in December 2010. My main instrument is saxophone. I earned my M.A in Jazz History and Research from Rutgers University (Newark) in May 2013.
I worked at Rutgers as a part-time lecturer teaching an undergraduate course entitled "Fundamentals of Music." My masters program has prepared me to shape essays at the higher level (personal statements for grad school applications or undergraduate research papers.) I also have insight into proper style and formatting for such papers; form and style are huge in the upper-level writing world and these skills are invaluable in the future if you are willing to shape your writing voice.
I am qualified to help any writer seeking to refine their voice creatively or academically. If you are are seeking a tutor to help you proofread, brainstorm or shape the perfect essay for college application, I am your guy! The editing process can be tedious, but I am here and will be with you the entire way.
I am qualified to teach beginner piano, and all levels of saxophone, composition, songwriting and lyric composition. I front my own band, for which I write lyrics and music.
Outside the world of music, I am a published writer and critic. I have written for WBGO.ORG, NPR.ORG and AFROPOP.ORG and my own blog, Hardbop Jazz Journal. I currently work part-time at WBGO-88.3FM where I am producing a radio show that will air in February 2014.
I look forward to hearing from you and meeting up as we shape and improve your skills in music and/or writing.
