I'm a NY State "highly qualified" social studies (history) teacher with experience teaching global history and geography, as well as Regents prep in U.S. and global history. I have also one-on-one and small-group tutored at several non-profits in the city. I have had excellent results with all of my students and maintain a high level of accountability and intellectual rigor - but most of all, authenticity and fun! I know my subject inside and out - academics are the easy part - I focus on methods of retaining, understanding, and enjoying social studies and history. All of my students - including you - are smart and capable, and able to achieve great things!
This summer, I taught 10th grade global history at a charter school in Manhattan, and here is an excerpt from an email my principal sent me:
Again I am so happy how great things are going in your class. Just want you to know that not everybody could have walked into that classroom and done what you’ve done and created what you’ve created. I really am so impressed and my heart is completely warmed by the positivity emanating from you and the students. And by the love you’ve given them. They really need it and yet it can be hard for them to accept. But they are accepting it from you and I am so grateful to you for building an environment and relationships where that is possible.
I had an amazing experience teaching there, and while I would have loved to continue to teach at the school, they did not have an opening for the fall.
Here is the breakdown of my qualifications:
BA, MA in History
Ph.D. in Cultural studies
NYSTCE Content Specialty Test (005 Social Studies) - passed with a 265 out of 300 score
"Highly qualified" high school teacher
taught cultural studies in college for 4 years
I hope to hear from you soon!
