Algebra 1
My background in algebra includes breadth and depth. My education and experience covers the standard algebra 1 and 2 sequence, with relevant info taken from college level algebra classes. Graphing, "FOIL" and factoring are all made approachable. I have experience on computer algebra systems and graphing calculators to share.
Algebra 2
I took this class at the high school level where the enjoyment began. The trickier topics such as polynomial long division were then covered at the collegiate level algebra classes. There isn't any reason not to master the material...its very much applied.
Chemistry
Using principles and heuristics from experimental and non-experimental chemistry, my tuition of chemistry revolved around a college level introductory chemistry class. The students gain an understanding of scientific units, molecular weight, reactants, reagents, Avogadro's number, anode and cathode and electron orbitals and electron states.
Geometry
For my senior year project my adviser (Dr. Ethan Bloch) and I worked on a geometry project. This project brought me to a higher level of understanding of geometry, and also renewed my interest in teaching the subject. During college I tutored geometry to fellow classmates. I tutor using many visual aids.
Prealgebra
During prealgebra we stress foundations with attention to detail. Rigorous examples are given to help the students take on elementary topics. Later, factoring is introduced.
Precalculus
Precalculus involves the introduction of key concepts such as limits and logarithms. My preparation includes a full litany of classes. I have tutored this subject and its super subjects during college level classes. Students generally present the text they are using. We continue from there.
Trigonometry
Here the familiar functions of Sin, Cos, and Tan are analyzed. I provide an experience of trigonometry that is coherent and including many examples. I use texts from high school and college level classes. Students may expect rigor and non-arbitrary examples.
SAT Math
I have extensive experience in this type of math and received a competitive score taking the test. My B.A. in Mathematics necessarily covers the language on the test. In addition, I have problem solving experience from Mathematical Problem Solving (offered at U. of California Santa Cruz as a full-course) and Problem Solving Seminar (offered at Bard College as a half-course) which will be useful. GED
Having studied GED prep texts, I use conventional challenges and examples to carry students towards an understanding of the content material. Students who have already purchased preparatory texts may receive specific customized prep relating to the texts. Familiar concepts such as My Plate are presented neatly. Students gain a full understanding of the material. Depth is added to prep using college level writing, literature, and math classes (Algebra).
PSAT
PSAT practice is dynamic, useful and of value for Merit scholarships. Having achieved a high SAT and PSAT score, my qualification stems from real world results. Students may wish to locate a practice book for study. Concepts are used in measured and unmeasured elaborations on subject material.
ACT Math
Having taken numerous classes in Algebra and Geometry, along with some other great classes such as Trigonometry, I can provide ample tutoring for this test. Elementary Math
I have tutored elementary math on countless occasions (independent tutoring centers and volunteer work). Being a tutor with a smart, intelligible background, I easily create specific examples that solve young students' dilemmas. This is especially important in elementary math.
