I have had considerable experience working with students from grades 8 to 12, particularly in math. I have also worked to improve students' test performance, using techniques I learned teaching an SAT prep class. I like to work one on one with students as I can adapt to their learning styles and figure out what teaching techniques work best for them. I believe constant interaction with students is crucial to determine what they are absorbing and what needs to be repeated. I try to bolster student confidence with positive reinforcement whenever possible. Finally, I believe relating the subject matter being taught to their everyday experience helps to keep students interested.
I graduated from Columbia University in 1986, and earned a PhD. in Sociology from Binghamton University in 1999. I have five years of teaching experience at the college level.
