After many years as a recruiter, I decided that I wanted to teach English as a second language. I went back to school to obtain my TESOL teaching certificate and for the past three years, I have been teaching and tutoring ESL to a wide range of students. These have included international students planning to attend college in the U.S., visiting business people from international companies, immigrant groups and resident immigrants eager to improve their English. I have taught at Brooklyn College, Kaplan International Centers and through a local Community Council.
I enjoy teaching in all its aspects but I get particular pleasure from the one-on-one experience of tutoring. Recently, I spent three weeks with a student from Switzerland spending three hours every day in conversation, grammar practice and reading. I also have a regular Saturday session with a recent arrival from Russia who needs help because she has to communicate daily with senior executives in her company.
At the same time, I also teach English as a second language to all levels and advise international students who are preparing to attend colleges in the United States.
