Above all, my goal is to always make students comfortable and to make the learning experience fun and engaging for them. As I've also been an actor for many years (that's where the photo comes from!), my students often consider me more of an "edu-tainer" than a teacher.
I hold a bachelor's degree in Spanish and in Cinema and Media Studies from Wellesley College, where I had the opportunity to study abroad in Cordoba, Spain for a semester. While working on my master's in film at Boston University, I began tutoring at the Student Athlete Support Center, providing one-on-one Spanish help for swimmers, basketball players, soccer players, and wrestlers. As an actor, I've always had a knack for accents, so while I'm not a native Spanish speaker, I still sound like one!
My classroom teaching experience has mainly been in film and communication. During the time I spent at BU, I lectured and held discussion sections for freshman film majors. I also spent my one summer co-teaching film to a very lively group of middle schoolers at Phillips Exeter Academy, which was one of the best experiences of my life.
My specialty is in working with high school upperclassmen and college freshmen during those crucial transitional years. I currently teach college level film studies and mass communication to high school seniors in Brooklyn. An avid writer, I have been a freelance film critic since grad school and I've also written plays and screenplays.
I'm available for Spanish help at all levels, including conversation practice, and academic & creative writing help for native and non-native English speakers.
