Experienced Writing, Reading and College Essay Tutor

I am a very experienced teacher of reading and writing and a published author. It is my passion to work with students and watch them progress, especially in any kind of writing. Students often have great ideas but have become frustrated in their attempts to expressing them forcefully on paper. I use a combination of writing process and some instruction in the mechanics of writing when necessary to improve the work. When students are having trouble deciding what to write, I work with them to brainstorm and cull possible topics for their work. Students learn how to draft and revise, use quotations to support their theses and if writing a research paper, how to cite and construct an argument.

I have taught students from sixth grade to college and have both independent school and public school experience. I also have a great track record helping kids get into the college of their choice with a compelling, well-written essay.

I have an MA in English Education with a specialty in the teaching of writing from Teachers College at Columbia University and an MFA in Creative Writing from The City College of New York where I won the Tony Kushner Writing Award.
