Learn a system of drumming that encourages creativity and has limitless possibilities! All levels from beginner to advanced are welcome. Hard-working, dedicated students are preferred. I have been studying drums for 18 years, teaching privately for 7 years, and have had many teachers and methods that have inspired me along the way. I have studied with Gary Chaffee, Frank Katz, and Linda Malouf to name a few. I have also taken Summer workshops at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. Gary's teachings have inspired me most of all because he doesn't just teach the drumming fundamentals-- his system incorporates these fundamentals into exercises while also encouraging creative applications to the drum set. In other words, he gives you a UNIVERSE of drumming and then it is up to you, the student, to carve your own path.
We will cover a variety of styles including rock, funk, jazz, hip-hop, Afro-Cuban, Latin, reggae, and more. We can go over technique exercises, grips, and philosophies, but I encourage the student to think of technique as a means to an end and not an end in itself. I believe that it is necessary for one to work hard in order to serve the music, rather than using the music to serve one's self. Not only will the music sound better, but other musicians will respect you more and you will get more work with this approach.
