Art History

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History, with additional undergraduate and graduate coursework in aesthetics, art theory, and criticism. I spent a semester in Tokyo, Japan studying art and art history, which extends my knowledge base to many artistic movements (Eastern & Western). My specialty Post-War and Contemporary Art, but can work with any movement or topic.

While completing my graduate coursework at Columbia University, I obtained a position with the education department at the New Museum of Contemporary Art in New York City. My work there allowed me to gain hands-on experience with contemporary art and artists in the rapidly changing context of an institution with no permanent collection.I researched and selected exhibition related resources, edited guided-tours, and developed training programs for docents, freelance educators, operations, and visitor services staff in at least 5 exhibition cycles at the museum.

Drawing

I completed a Bachelor's degree in Drawing and Painting at the highly acclaimed Tyler School of Art, which is part of the larger Temple University in Philadelphia. My work has been selected for a number of group exhibitions, and my portfolio has also granted my admission to graduate school at New York University (NYU) and Columbia University, where I accepted admission and completed my Masters. I have also taught on the college level at a community college in the suburbs of Pennsylvania, working with all skill levels and abilities.

As a graduate student I continued my artistic practice, taking on an additional studio course as an independent study. The focus was drawing and after the class was completed, I was invited by the professor to work as her Teaching Assistant for the students taking the introductory course.

Painting

I completed my Bachelor's degree in Painting at the acclaimed Tyler School of Art, which is part of the larger Temple University in Philadelphia. While there, I received instruction and praise from distinguished artists who worked as professors in the art school.

I have worked in Oil, Acrylic, and Watercolor varieties of the medium, and taught two college level courses in painting (one based on watercolors and the other on acrylics). My artist portfolio also yielded my admission to graduate school at both New York University (NYU) and Columbia University, where I accepted, and thereafter completed my Masters degree.

I work in both abstract and representational styles, in a variety of sizes, formats, and surfaces. My work has been selected for a range of group exhibitions, featuring multiple works in a single show.

I continued my painting practice as a graduate student, studying with prominent art practitioners who also served as faculty in the department at Columbia University.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
