Hi everybody, I'm Peter, and I may be your ideal tutor!

I'm currently a graduate student at Mercy College, pursuing a Master of Science degree in TESOL. I graduated from SUNY Cobleskill with a Bachelor of Science degree in Communications with a minor in Humanities. I also hold a certificate in Web Development from CUNY Baruch College. I've successfully tutored peers in HTML/CSS, Adobe Creative Suite software, English Language Arts (including reading, writing, proofreading and vocabulary), Linguistics, introductory Spanish, and English as a Second Language. I have much experience teaching adults basic computer skills on both Windows and Macintosh platforms and I can always help with time-management and study skills.

Besides tutoring, I have extensive experience as a teaching assistant in the public school classrooms of New York City. In addition to working with whole classes, I have experience working one-on-one and in small groups with students of all ages, including extensive experience with English-language learners and students with special needs.

My philosophy is that all students have the ability to learn, with an understanding that each student learns in a different way. As an educator, I favor a differentiated approach to teaching that allows me to tailor my lessons and instructional delivery to my students' individual needs and learning styles. I favor a lot of interaction between the tutor and student, and believe in fostering independence in addition to providing guided practice. My experiences have taught me that patience and empathy are crucial to the teaching-learning process.

I've tutored in basic skills such as creating and deleting folders, using the Finder to navigate the contents of the computer, using various software programs as well as more advanced areas of the system such as the command-based Terminal and various system utilities.
