Since September 2002, I have taught both English Language Arts and Social Studies at two public middle schools in Brooklyn, where I can proudly say I brought the love of reading back to many students who had lost (or never established) interest. I currently teach 6th grade ELA, and am the Teacher Leader in our department. I also run our school's Student Newspaper as an after-school club. I pride myself on forming strong working relationships with my students and their families.
My nurturing demeanor, however, comes along with a philosophy of academic rigor. I believe that educators must prepare their students to overcome the world’s challenges by creating dedicated learners who are constantly evolving. In order to meet these academic and worldly challenges, I demand excellence from my students and from myself. I believe in setting a system of high and transparent academic expectations, which I couple with frequent feedback and honest dialogue. This formula sets my students up for success, not only in school, but in life.
