As a weekly contributor to the Night Life section of The New Yorker magazine for over 20 years I have learned the effectiveness of direct, understandable and persuasive language. These basic yet powerful skills are of vital importance to students as well as all aspiring writers. The ability to express yourself with clarity and vigor in your writing can be the key to academic and professional success.

I love and respect language, and I have the ability to convey this passion for words and formal construction. My teaching methods are grounded in a close examination of how carefully chosen words work to build powerful sentences, and how tightly constructed sentences then form well-built essays, stories or any literary work.

Working together, a student and I can unlock the mysteries of writing, unlearn bad habits, learn simple but highly effective formal ploys that have immediate results, and generate a lasting respect for the creative process itself.

My love of writing and teaching is linked with patience, empathy and, most of all, enthusiasm. The best thing about working with students is that we learn from each other. I look forward to improving your writing skills and sharing my own interest in writing with you.
