As my profile will tell you, my name is Jan-Kristof and I am a Haitian-American college student studying at Brooklyn College. My major is Childhood Education with a concentration in Psychology. Education has always been a significant part of my life from being raised in a large family in Port-au-Prince, Haiti to moving to the United States of America. I later became a teacher for the Saturday Program at the Cooper Union, which is an art program geared towards high school students interested in art and/or architecture. I was then hired by the New York City Board of Education as a tutor through the Champion Learning Center, which provides at home, one-on-one tutoring for students from the grades K-12 in every material and standardized tests such as the SAT or the ACT. I currently work at PS 269 in the Flatbush area as a youth facilitator in an after-school program for middle school students. I am fingerprinted with the Board of Education and have passed my background check. My philosophy as an educator is to educate the whole child. This means taking into account where the child is coming from and being aware that he or she does have a life outside of the classroom that may be affecting his or her learning skills. I am patient and firmly believe in a system that builds confidence within the student.
