I am an experienced reading
tutor currently enrolled in graduate school for my Master's degree in Creative Writing. I work part-time as a tutor at an after school program in Brooklyn and am looking for additional tutoring opportunities.
Currently, I tutor middle school students in humanities subjects. I assist students with reading comprehension, short- and long-form writing, test preparation
, and writing mechanics (grammar
, punctuation). In the past, I helped high school students with college essay
applications while volunteering at 826NYC and assisted a college student with creating a thesis and outline for a research paper.
My literacy and writing experience includes my certification as an ESL
teacher. I taught ESL at a middle school in Thailand and taught ESL to adults in New York. In both roles, I assisted non-English
speaking adults and children with grammar, pronunciation, listening, and reading comprehension.
Additional experience includes:
- working with at-risk youth at underperforming NYC public schools
- working with students who have an IEP
- tutoring elementary and middle school students at 826NYC (youth organization
in Park Slope)
- leading writing workshops for young adults with disabilities and for senior citizens
- working with students on arts and crafts projects at Free Arts NYC, an arts education organization
My patient, supportive demeanor along with my critical thinking skills and writing experience allow me to assist students in their studies. I use supplementary materials and lesson plans to create the most constructive and engaging sessions possible. I believe the best tutors are positive, calm, creative, specific, and, of course, have an excellent sense of humor!
I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Boston University and am now pursuing my Master's degree in Creative Writing at University of New Orleans' online program.
I look forward to working with you!
