I am an experienced freelance writer, copyeditor, tutor, and ESL teacher. Contact me if you need help with academic writing (short and longform), business writing, or if your child needs help with middle or high school ELA classes. I can help you or your child improve academic and communication skills. I like to give assignments, use a variety of exercises, and of course have a few laughs during the lesson!
In the past, I helped many college-level students with their academic writing. I also helped middle school students prepare for ELA exams and enhance their reading, writing, grammar, and spelling skills.
My writing experience includes articles for several environmental and social justice publications. I have covered threats to our environment, women's rights, poverty, immigrants, and water sanitation.
I formerly taught ESL at a private language institution in Manhattan. I led adult classes on conversation, grammar, listening, writing, and speaking. I also taught business English, literature analysis, essay writing, and oral presentation skills.
Additional tutoring experience: I was a volunteer tutor at the youth education nonprofit 826 NYC (based in Park Slope) for seven months. There I assisted children from ages six to eighteen with subjects such as math (pre-algebra and geometry), social sciences, English Language Arts, and essay writing.
In 2008, I completed my TESOL certification with American TESOL Institute in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Completion of the course demanded public school teaching in Thailand. For six months, I taught five levels of ESL to over 200 children. I created all lesson plans, quizzes, and tests, and I designed my own grading system.
I received my Bachelor's degree with honors in film and English from Boston University in 2005.
English is my native language.
