I am happy to help novices, designers who wish they knew how to write markup, and developers who wish they knew how to create graphics. I have experience tutoring kids and adults, and I can host online sessions if remote classes are more convenient for you.
I cannot help you on the server side of things (other than some basic PHP). I'm not a Java developer, I've never used command line JS, I don't know SQL, etc.
A DIFFERENT WHO
Okay, and now for my credentials in a nutshell. I am a User Experience Designer at a mid-sized Web application company based out of Austin, TX, but with an office in New York. In addition to designing interfaces, I've done some web and code architecture work. I'm pretty good at DOM scripting, and I'm thankful for JQuery. Because I'm a designer, I'm well-versed in Photoshop and Illustrator.
I tutored math at a couple local high schools, and taught an extended education course at the University of Texas.
Oh, and I'm writing a textbook about mobile product design.
So ya. I know some things, and I think teaching is fun.
As a user experience designer at a software company, I use Illustrator frequently to create wireframes and even flowcharts.
Having learned Photoshop first, I used to think Illustrator was the devil! My mind has completely changed, however, and now I find that for many projects, I can get the art done faster with Illustrator tools at my disposal.
So far all my students are interested in Photoshop, but I would LOVE to plan an Illustrator lesson! Please contact me if you are interested in learning how to use this awesome software. =)
I bought my first Photoshop license about eight years ago, originally for Illustration purposes. Eventually my career shifted focus to Web Design, and now I primarily use Photoshop to produce web graphics. I've used it almost daily, and for a variety of tasks, for nearly a decade. My experience puts me in a position to help people interested in art and design the most.
Before my career shift to Web, I spent about four years illustrating on a freelance basis. Most of my illustrations are pencil, pen, and ink, which I bring into Photoshop for color. I am also experienced in vector illustration. I have worked for a fashion label and three animation studios. My most recognizable contribution is to animate on the feature film "A Scanner Darkly," which got me an IMDB page.
HTML is actually very, very simple. I am confident that with a cheat sheet to remind you of the various tag names, you could learn HTML in a lesson or two.
What students don't realize, however, is that HTML by itself is pretty boring... too simple, you could say. You are not going to launch your first website by learning HTML alone, but really, the hardest part is finding out what you need to know.
I can help you with that! I can teach you:
* What markup/languages you need to know to achieve certain tasks (HTML, CSS, JS, etc.)
* When it's better to just use a Content Management System
* How to buy server space, and which web hosts are cool
... basically the things you need to know to get started!
Or, if you just want to learn HTML, we can stick to that too. =)
I have been painting with acrylics since childhood, and am very familiar with acrylic techniques and blending mediums. My style is most similar to Art Nouveau, and I have participated in several group shows.
As a professional User Experience Designer, I can help students interested in Web Design to design interfaces that are visually pleasing and easy for their users to understand. I can also point them to online resources where they can stay up-to-date on current web-trends.
