I graduated from the specialized high school Bronx Science, attended George Washington University in Washington, DC for Interior Design, and am currently studying Biology and Chemistry at CUNY Brooklyn College.

I have had experience as a YMCA camp counselor with kids grades K-5, get along very well with youth of all ages and have the patience to teach students until they thoroughly understand the material. I enjoy tutoring all subjects, science and math being my forte. I speak Cantonese, read/write some Chinese, and am proficient in Italian.

Having volunteered as a college mentor to high school students from the Dual Studies High School in Lower Manhattan in my free time, I am also able to provide aid in the college application process including essay writing, regents and SAT / ACT prep, choosing schools, financial aid applications, scholarship help, etc.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 is one of my most requested subjects for regents prep. I have written worksheets with formulas and problems in every topic of integrated algebra, so students will get the most thorough review possible. We will work out a schedule depending on how much time is available before the exam, and I will be in communication with parents with their children's progress, weak areas, and assigned homework.

Biology

Having majored in the subject, I know general biology like the back of my hand and am able to tutor or teach it. If your child needs help in regents biology, I have written out worksheets with regents practice questions in every topic covered in the exam. I will also assign past regents for homework and work with your child until he fully grasps all the concepts. If you need help in college level biology, I also have worksheets for that. I teach my peers the subject in the tutoring center so I am confident I will be able to help you ace your class.

College Counseling

I currently work as a college mentor with students at the Dual Language High School in Lower Manhattan to help them with the college process including searching for desirable schools, editing college essays, walking them through the common application and school applications, applying for financial aid, finding scholarship opportunities, etc. I am familiar with collegeboard.com, commonapp.com, fafsa.gov, etc.

Genetics

Genetics is one of my favorite topics in Biology. I received an A in the course and have successfully tutored my peers. Besides just clear cut memorization of scientific terms, I believe in posing hypothetical scenarios to genetic problem solving for complete understanding of the concepts, particularly in classical genetics. I can provide worksheets and sample experiments to help students with analytical thinking.

Regents

I have successfully prepared students for the NYS regents in biology, chemistry, earth science, algebra 1, algebra 2/trigonometry, geometry, and Italian. I am certified in all science and math subjects. Having acquired a regents diploma from Bronx Science, I am very familiar with the content and format and will work with your child to develop better test taking skills and wrong answer elimination strategies. We will extensively review materials in each subject and practice with actual regents from the past, thoroughly examine each topic your child does not understand.
