My name is Kayisha. I am a Mental Health Counselor for Adolescent youth. I earned my post graduate degree in Mental Health Counseling from Alfred University, my first master degree in Human Services from Capella University, and my undergraduate degree in Psychology from CW Post Campus of Long Island University.

My background is saturated in Advancing Youth Development. As a clinician, I provide therapeutic and skill building services to children and at risk youth challenged by ADHD, ODD, Bipolar, and Schizophrenic and Adjustment Disorders. My areas of specialty are reading comprehension, writing, vocabulary, career counseling, sociology, and psychology.

My past professional experience includes a role as a foster parent and a liaison for Gwinnett County Foster Care System. I was a substitute teacher for the Gwinnett County Department of Education teaching K-12 primarily special education students.

When I provide tutoring services to families I administer pre and post tests to track students strength, weakness, and growth. This provides me a beginning and ending point in regards to the use of materials and guides to be administered on a weekly basis.

ADD/ADHD

I am qualified to provided tutoring/behavior modification in this area based on my education and work experience. I have a forthcoming Advanced Certificate in Mental Health Counseling along with an MS in Counseling Studies and BA in Psychology (child development). I've worked with many youth challenged with ADD/ADHD providing therapeutic support, activities directing one to analyze and critique their surroundings to improve self and academics. I provide skill building through the use of play therapy modalities to improve study skills and knowledge of time management.

As a small business owner, I have experience with initiating and updating business plans. I have a directory of resources. I am able to assist and provide input on financial planning, financial road maps, business roadmaps, marketing, and creating your own buzz. As a former high school adviser, I had the opportunity to administer personality and interest inventories, provide career information, guidelines, salary, and qualifications for careers students are interested in. I utilized achievement and aptitude tests to help clients get a better idea of what they are good at, assist students interested in college major, evaluation students educational and work backgrounds in order to help them determine what they need to do next to achieve their goals, help students identify the right schools or programs, interview, or resume writing.



Cooking

I have the professional experience as former Wilton Method Instructor teaching different levels of cake decorating to children, teens, and adults. I’ve taken recreational cake courses at Viking Cooking School of Atlanta and Cake Art. Recently, I had the opportunity to complete classes with WeTV Celebrity Chef Vinny Buzzetta of Staten Island Cakes and Lisa Mansour of New York Cake. I am one of the 2013 ICES scholarship recipient to continue studying advanced cake decorating.

I’ve been freelancing through Elance. As a freelancer I’ve completed projects creating cake pop recipes, E-books, food photography, cake decorating blogs, and recipes.

Elementary (K-6th)

For over a year, I was a substitute teacher for the Gwinnett County School System in Gwinnett County Georgia. A vast majority of my coverage was for K-6th grade including students with special needs and behavioral issues. I am fully aware of the school system's expectation when it comes to scholastic achievement, patience, and compassion when serving children.

Psychology

I have over nine years in the field of psychology and social work. I have a BA in psychology and an MS in human services. I am a few hours shy of completing my post graduate program in mental health counseling. Psychology is the affective, behavior, and cognitive study of human behavior. I believe that I can assist your child with their studies.

Sociology

I've taken Sociology I and Sociology II during my undergraduate studies. My background in Social Work/Human Services has allowed me to identify patterns of development over time amongst the population that I serve providing solutions to problems. My experience of Urban Social Work and Child Welfare qualifies me to assist in this subject matter.

I am qualified in the area of study skills as students need evidence based strategies to be scholastically successful such as identifying weakness and strengths, adopting a growth mindset, adequate sleep, good nutrition, regularly testing themselves, pacing their studies, complete handouts by tutor, and forgiving oneself for procrastination.
