Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Sasha has done a lot of work with Algebra students in the past year. She is trained to teach SAT Math, the bulk of which is Algebra. She also currently tutors the Integrated Algebra Regents at Automotive High School in Brooklyn.

College Counseling

I worked in the admissions office at my alma mater, Hamilton College, for 3 years, first as a tour guide and then as a Senior Intern, interviewing applicants and reviewing applications. Currently, I am part of the Hamilton Alumni Recruitment Team, where I work at college fairs and give off campus interviews. I'm an excellent writer and editor and currently tutor essay writing.

English

I received scores of 4 on both the AP English Language & Literature APs, as well as a 750 on the Literature SAT II. I am a voracious reader with a great vocabulary. I have a certificate in Expository Writing from Windward's Teacher Training Institute.

ISEE

I have tutored many students for the ISEE at all levels with great results. As I tutor both Reading and Math, I am comfortable tutoring the whole test. Tutoring for the ISEE is doubly helpful for students because, as they prepare for the test, they're also learning valuable study skills.

Literature

I am a voracious and enthusiastic reader and my study of literature goes hand in hand with my experience as an actor. My best papers in high school and college were in English and Comparative Lit classes and I have tutored many students on their English papers with great success.

SAT Reading

I was trained to teach SAT reading by Bell Curves - one of the leading test prep services in NYC. On my own SAT, I received a Verbal score of 760.

Theatre

I hold an MFA in Acting from Rutgers University and a BA cum laude in Theater from Hamilton College, not to mention participation in various other training programs such as Williamstown Theater Festival and National High School Institute's Theater Arts division. I am currently a working actress in New York City having worked on projects in the Fringe Festival, on HBO and at regional theaters all over the country. Having worked with several different teachers, I have a unique on the art of acting and am able to give the student a unique, personal approach. I am available to help students looking to audition for BFA and MFA programs or looking to start going on auditions.

Excellent tutor. — Sasha is a wonderful tutor. She helped our daughter prepare for the SATs. She was patient and she focused on the areas that required work (math).
