I am glad for this opportunity to introduce myself to you. My name is Diana and I am an experienced instructor of both English and Russian as a second language. First and foremost, I would like you to know that I always create a comfortable environment for my students, based on mutual trust. This is the context which allows my students, and I to develop strong rapport and work together productively. My students appreciate my sense of humor and enjoy the role-playing that I use in teaching.
To tell you about my professional experience, I have taught at libraries, adult continuing education programs, and colleges. I also have extensive experience teaching citizenship classes, preparing immigrants for the naturalization interview. Going back to my time in Russia, I was an assistant dean at Tashkent Polytechnic University in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, where I supervised and trained teachers, developed innovative teaching techniques, and was in charge of publishing textbooks. Beyond these duties, I oversaw the entire operation of a large language department.
Regarding my teaching style, I use a student-centered approach, in which I focus on each student’s particular needs and goals. To further promote learning, I integrate the use of technology into my teaching. Lastly, my working with students from all over the world has given me intimate knowledge of diverse countries, cultures and traditions. I therefore approach each student with a keen cultural sensitivity.
In closing, I hope that I will have the chance to work with you and to share my love of languages and of teaching. In the meantime, I wish you the best of luck in your studies.
