I am a junior chemical engineering student at Manhattan College. I am 21 years old, and fluent in Spanish. Thanks to my strong background in chemistry and mathematics, I will be able to provide help to the best of my ability in any of the mentioned subjects. I will strive to make it a good experience not only for the student but for the parents as well. As an engineering student, I'm aware as to how bad it feels to not understand certain concepts. Throughout my college career, I have had great peers who help each other and explain things in a way that is easy to understand and works for everybody. For this reason I feel that I am a good candidate to be a tutor, as I have struggled multiple times in a variety of subjects but have always come on top regardless of the circumstances. I graduated from Deptford High School which is located in New Jersey. I was a member of the National Honors Society and graduated in the top 5% of my class. Following freshman year at Drexel University in Philadelphia I transferred to Manhattan College.
I intend to tutor using simpler examples to explain complex concepts. It is easy to get lost in the fancy wording often used in textbooks or even in regular class notes. Working on simpler problems and progressively moving on to more challenging problems is a good way to ensure a good understanding of the concepts and make sure that the student will be able to deal with the variety of problems that may get thrown at them. As a tutor during my high school as well as my college career in subjects such as chemistry, physics and math, I know that every student is different but with the experience obtained over the years I am confident that I will be able to accommodate to the students' needs and reach the goal of improving their knowledge on any given subject.
Chemical engineering is a field which requires mastery of math and chemistry concepts due to the nature of the work required. Due to the rigorous coursework in my field, it is often recommended to work in groups to be able to understand and solve challenging problems. The skills that I have acquired through group work make me qualified to tutor as I have seen the areas where many of my peers and students in general usually struggle. At the same time I realize how rewarding it is to finally master those concepts that seem impossible to understand at any given point. I look forward to working with you and helping you reach your academic goals. Thank you for considering me as a potential tutor.
