As a student at SUNY Geneseo I graduated Cum Laude with a bachelor's of science in biology. I took the MCAT and received a score of 40 (14PS-14VR-12B), which placed me in approximately the 99.75 percentile of all test takers. I took the test July 27th 2013. I have been accepted to medical school and am matriculating in August, though I currently tutor full time. I am excited at the idea of helping other students to overcome the stressful burden of the MCAT. I would be happy to help students to select materials and map out an independent study plan. I truly believe that anyone who has successfully completed the required coursework for application to medical school is capable of doing very well on the MCAT.
I tutor high school and elementary school students in all subjects but particularly in science and math. I have extensive experience tutoring students ranging from 6th grade to graduate level, and a strong foundation in math, biology, chemistry, and physics at the undergrad level. I understand that every student is different and that strategies must be adjusted accordingly. I engage my students in an active learning style which favors asking them questions so that they piece together their understanding of new material from prior knowledge. I do not simply explain material while my students nod their heads. It is important to relate material to examples from everyday life. I strive for my students to learn the meaning of the material at hand, rather than memorizing the steps to doing a problem.
Aside from the MCAT I also tutor for other admissions tests (ACT, SAT (scored 1400), ASVAB (scored 99), where I believe a strong emphasis on foundational skills and test taking strategy can help a student to maximize their abilities and fulfill their potential.
