My name is Clemencia. I was a Medical Doctor in my own country and here, in the U.S, I became a Spanish Interpreter and Translator. I have taught Spanish for fun to some people. I took Spanish grammar classes at Hunter College when I went there to obtain my certificate as an interpreter and translator. I really enjoy teaching. When I went to college in Colombia, I belonged to different student groups depending on the subject and when someone did not understand a concept and I did, I explained it to this classmate. I still consider that this was a very good method to make me and others learn. Through my student life, I have had good teachers and bad teachers. I believe that a good teacher is the one who is able to explain himself. Teachers should start from the beginning, use simple examples first and then move on to some more difficult ones. They should be as clear as possible, good listeners and try to be very patient.

I would like to teach Spanish and also some specific subjects in Science and Biology.

Nutrition

I am a Medical Doctor from Colombia, so I have more than a basic knowledge about nutrition. I won an award (Mina Shaughnessy Memorial) in 2006 at City College about Obesity. As a medical Interpreter many times I have had to help Spanish speaking patients with their dietitians appointments. As a MD,I had to teach patients of different ages how to eat properly. When I did so, I used diagrams and illustrated books. Other method that works really well is fake food (food toys).
