I am a commissioned composer of complex, atonal music. My works have been performed at Lincoln Center as well as at colleges, universities, conferences and music festivals in the US and Canada.

I have eleven years of teaching experience. I am experienced in teaching sight-singing, ear-training, music theory, composition, and piano. I have enormous patience and truly enjoy teaching.

I am also a harpsichordist. I studied and performed at the Amherst Early Music Festival's Baroque Academy for several years. I was originally trained as a pianist at The Pre-College Division of The Juilliard School.

Composition (Music)

I taught music composition in the Conservatory program of the CPSM (Center for Preparatory Studies in Music) of Queens College/CUNY.
My approach to teaching composition is to provide a foundation so that students can express their musical ideas in any style. I start with simple exercises. I believe that one should never impose a musical style on a student.

Ear Training

I studied ear-training intensively at the Juilliard Pre-College Division for several years. When I entered college at Barnard College/Columbia University, I was given advanced placement in the subject area.

I taught Ear-Training at the CPSM Program of Queens College/CUNY for several years with great success. I also taught ear-training skills in the Sight-Singing Program in the NY City Public Schools with excellent results.

I have always been a natural for teaching ESL. Even when I was in Elementary School, my sixth grade teacher requested that I tutor a fellow classmate newly arrived from Cuba. I loved helping her and she improved! I even wrote her a song!

I always assist my fiends for whom English is their second language. For example, I often help my Japanese colleague prepare materials for publication and also help her with her English pronunciation and grammar. I also coached a Japanese TV star for the performance of an opera, her first performance in English!

I hold a NY State Teacher's Certificate in French (K-12).

I studied French intensively at university.
My major was French Culture. I studied both Medieval and modern French and wrote my Senior Thesis in French.

General Music

I define general music as all of the rudiments of music: understanding of meter, tempo, register, the meaning of the musical staff, clefs, and musical styles.

I am a professional composer and harpsichordist. I hold two master's degrees in music: one in music composition and the other is music education.

I have taught the rudiments of music to students in grades K-6 and also more advanced musical analysis to students in grades 3-12, including students with special needs. I have also worked with adults.

Music History

I hold a NY State Teacher's Certificate in Music.

I have a very broad knowledge of music history. I studied music history as an undergraduate and in a post-secondary environment. As a graduate student, I studied music history.

Music Theory

I taught music theory for three years to both elementary school and high school students in the CPSM Program of Queens College/CUNY.

I was a piano major for many years as a student at the Juilliard Pre-College Division.

As an adult, I have performed some of my own compositions for piano.

When I was teaching in the NYC Public Schools, I was the pianist for innumerable school shows. Some were held at Herbert H. Lehman College at Lehman Center.

I taught piano four hands at the Center for Preparatory Studies in Music in the Musicianship Program at Queens College/CUNY.

As a teacher in the NYC Public Elementary Schools, I was required to get certified in the teaching of reading. I did an independent study course and was granted the required 6 credits in the teaching of reading. I have NYC Certification in this subject.

Sight Singing

I established a sight-singing program for NYC Public School students in the fourth and fifth grade and served as a judge for the "Sight Singing Celebration" which was the culmination of the program. I taught the subject for three years.

I also taught sight-singing for an additional three years in the CPSM Program of Queens College/CUNY.

I use Kodaly hand signals in my teaching of this subject.
