In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Public Speaking

I teach high school English but part of our curriculum is to teach public speaking and oral presentations. I can teach from the basics to the advanced speech making, addressing: pathos. ethos, and logos.

Regents

Currently, I am an English teacher for the Westchester Public Schools. I have taught grades (7-12) in the city, Florida, and currently in Westchester for over ten years. I have taught to the following learners : ELL, ESL, advanced, low functioning, special needs, advanced, and regular students. I have prepared students ELA, PSAT, SAT and the NYS regents and have graded both at the district level. I feel my experience can help these children be successful in ELA and hone in on their skills.

Social Studies

I am a high school English teacher. However, I have an enormous amount of test prep for middle and high schoolers in social studies. I have gained this experience because often English teachers are given the extra job of prepping for all social studies. global, and world history exams and courses due to the massive amounts of writing required. Therefore, I have become an expert in what is needed in middle and high school social studies to advanced to the next level.

Special Needs

I am a high school English teacher but I have had special needs students in my class who have been mainstreamed. I have all spectrums of special needs with IEPs and resource room services. The special needs community I have taught are the following : autism, aspergers, down syndrome and the hearing and or visually impaired. I know how to tailor the lessons to their needs. In addition, I also have a special needs niece.

Study Skills

I have ten years teaching an array of students from middle to high school who have all different learning challenges. One of the most difficult part of their learning process is understanding how to study and organize their learning. I have used all different methods from old fashion index cards to advanced spreadsheets in excel. Sometimes it just takes an extra set of eyes and hands to help the student be successful in studying and hone in on their skills to be successful.
