As someone that loves to serve the community, tutoring is a way that I could help people. It is something that I am passionate about. I have tutored in various forms for most of my life, from just helping a personal friend after class to working in my Engineering school tutoring division.
I started tutoring my freshman year in college, as I was a General Chemistry Peer Leader. I was able to organize active learning and discussion groups for chemistry students in a class. In this environment they learned how to work as a team in solving chemistry problems. They also learned from each other. In my second year of college I started working with Grove School of Engineering at City College of New York as a tutor. I helped students with Calculus and some basic Electrical Engineering courses. I also encouraged students to understand the material so that they could improve their performance in the class. I have improved tremendously over the years in my tutoring techniques and I hope to continue in that manner.
I would not only ensure my students learn the material but that they also apply it in their every day lives. Tutoring to me is a two way process, you learn from me and I learn from you. I am a very open minded and friendly person. I have worked in professional environments like as a college assistant in my school library. I would ensure that I do my job in the most professional manner.
I have also gained various communication skills both written and verbal throughout my college and job experiences. I would ensure that I communicate effectively with my students.
I am also very knowledgeable in the course materials that I tutor as I am a top student in the Honors Society in my Engineering school. One of my best courses that I love to tutor is mathematics.
