I have been involved in music for more than forty years first as a choir boy then as an organist. I've sung as a boy soprano and have gone down the vocal range to bass/baritone. I have a degree in music and a specialization in sight singing and ear training using the solfeggio/fixed do system.
As a speaker of several Romance languages, (Spanish, Italian, and French), I am aware of the pitfalls speakers of these languages have in English and have been very well equipped to help them learn English. In addition, over many years, I have tutored and helped speakers of highly diverse linguistic groups such as Arabic, Chinese, Russian, and German.
I love teaching grammatical analysis. I help you to identify all parts of speech and do a visual diagram of entire sentences. After a few lessons you will be able to specify what function a word plays in any sentence from comic book to scholarly journal style.
With Latin, I emphasize grammatical structure, translation, and reading comprehension. All levels taught.
My music theory lessons are based on the concept of integrative theory which encompasses form, counterpoint, as well as theory thus providing a solid basis for formal and harmonic analysis.
I teach proofreading from grammatical, orthographic, stylistic, and contextual perspectives.
Depending on the student, I start with the classics of the literary novel and branch off into poetry, drama, non-fiction, and even some technical writing to gain a facility with reading comprehension.

With Spanish, I teach phonetics, vocabulary, phrases/dialogues, grammar, reading/comprehension, and conversation. I teach beginning and intermediate levels of Spanish.
I introduce vocabulary together with word etymology and alternate contextual meanings. I let students write creative sentences using newly learned vocabulary to reinforce learning.
