My academic training was primarily in X-Ray diffraction physics to determine the stereo-chemistry and atomic structure of crystal solids. As a Physics PhD candidate (at Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn), I worked on the chemical structure determination for many new compounds.
My research career as a crystallographer in the Chemistry Department at Brookhaven National Laboratory, and my science training (in physics and chemistry) has served me well at other positions in industry (at Grumman, Robotic Vision, American Science, and other companies).
In addition to my career in research and industry, I have also been teaching courses in mathematics and the physical sciences, for over thirty years, as an Adjunct Professor at several colleges on Long Island.

Fortran
Fortran is one of several languages in which I regularly program, and which I also teach.
At Brookhaven Lab, I developed numerous Fortran applications programs in many scientific fields (such as nuclear reactor simulation, crystallography, oceanography, atmospheric chemistry in turbulence), and was also responsible for maintenance of the Fortran compilers on the CDC supercomputers. At Grumman, Robotic Vision, American Science, and elsewhere, I wrote many routines in Fortran (and managed the development of many, many more).
As a member of the Fortran Standards Committee X3J3 (and also the ISO Fortran Experts Group), I was heavily involved in the ANSI and ISO standardization efforts for Fortran, and am a listed author on the standards for both FORTRAN 77 and Fortran 90 (and chaired the interpretations subcommittee for the latter). I have published several articles on Fortran programming, edited others, and did technical reviews for many of the textbooks on Fortran 90 and later versions.

My computer experience is quite extensive, and it goes back for nearly four decades!
The first five computers I ever programmed were: IBM 650, IBM 7040, CDC 6600, SDS 920, PDP-8.
In the Applied Mathematics Dept. of Brookhaven National Lab, and later for companies such as Grumman, Robotic Vision, American Science, and others, I developed both applications and systems software for hundreds and hundreds of projects ranging from small to extremely large,
from drives and kernel mods to entire operating systems.
At Grumman, I was the deputy director for software for the entire ILS division, overseeing software development of 1500 engineers on 6 projects (F-14, A-6, and other aircraft, as well as satellite programs). At Robotic Vision, I was Software Manager for the entire company. At American Science, I was Vice President for Software Development.
I have held Adjunct Professorships at six different colleges (mostly in Computer Science, but also in Mathematics or Physics at some), and have taught programming to thousands of students (as well as hundreds of employees) during the past 30 years.

For over three decades, the unix operating system (and/or its derivatives such as Linux) has been involved in the majority of my programming activities, and I have written thousands of lines of code for unix applications, as well as unix drivers, kernel mods, etc.
As an Adjunct Professor at several local colleges, during the past 30 years, I've taught many programming courses involving unix and other operating systems. I was engaged by the Gibbs school to create a new curriculum for teaching the unix operating system internals and usage, implemented the program, and taught courses in it for several semesters.
I was also a contributing member of the POSIX standards committee, and have published several articles on unix and related topics.
Logic
As an Adjunct Professor (of Mathematics & Computer Science) at several local colleges, during the past 30 years, I regularly teach courses in math and computer science with topics in all areas of logic.
I've also taught both undergrad and post-graduate courses in computer architecture, software engineering, programming language theory, etc.
Macintosh
For over 30 years, I have been teaching computer science courses as an adjunct professor at several colleges. Most of my career in research and industry has involved development of computer software and systems and the management thereof.
Although I am very familiar with several operating systems (and have worked as a system-code developer for several of them), my strong preference is for Unix-based systems, including Linux, BSD, and OSX (the Macintosh O.S.).
MATLAB
As an Adjunct Professor (of Mathematics & Computer Science), I have taught a number of courses that use MATLAB and similar products. For over twenty years, I have successfully tutored students in courses that use MATLAB, and can provide references upon request.

I was engaged by the Gibbs school to create a new curriculum for teaching the unix operating system internals and usage, implemented the program, and taught courses in it for several semesters.
