I have received a Bachelor of Science in English and am currently attending graduate school to become an English teacher. I am a certified Teacher Assistant and have undergone a background check through the Department of Education. During my undergraduate studies, I completed twenty-two credits in education coursework and spent twenty hours observing in schools. I have tutored many students, from elementary level to college, in reading, writing, grammar, and interpretation of literature.
Through my tutoring and teaching experiences, I have learned that communication and creativity are keys to ensuring student success. The first tutoring session will usually consist of an assessment of skills and a discussion of the desired skill level and goals of the parent and/or student. Within three days of the initial tutoring session, I will provide the student and/or parent with a detailed road map of what to expect in future tutoring sessions and how we will improve on the student’s skills. The road map serves as a guide and can be tweaked according to student needs or parent concerns. At the beginning of each tutoring session there will be a review of the last session before new material is started. The rest of the session will depend on the needs of that particular tutee. It can consist of anything from working on school assignments to learning material outside of grade level. I will be creative in presenting the material and avoid dull tutoring sessions at all costs. I feel that when the tutee enjoys the lesson, they are more likely to remember the material. Not every student is the same; therefore, the way the tutoring session looks will vary from tutee to tutee.
