Thanks for visiting my profile! I have been tutoring through WyzAnt for more than three years. During this time I have worked with students of all ages and abilities. My objective is to get students prepared and confident in the course they are having difficulty with. I specialize in preparing students for major test such as the SAT
Regents, AP Physics B
Exam, and AP Calculus
I don’t consider myself to be a conventional tutor, as my methods can sometimes be described as unorthodox. Not only do I teach students how to correctly and clearly solve a problem, but I try to get them to realize that only through hard work, and patience will they succeed. I believe in good work ethics, honesty, and do my best to provide a high quality lesson. People have told me that I have a good sense of humor, and, apparently, that I am a huge nerd (as well as a tech geek).
My goal is to eventually have the student not need me anymore; in other words, become independent thinkers. By this I mean, the student is ready to handle problems on their own. I go by the motto, "if you give a man a fish you feed them for the day, if you teach a man to fish you feed him for life." Once this happens, I will have done my job, and will move onto helping someone else in need. That being written, there isn't a better feeling than when students send me an email
later on telling me they got accepted into a great university, or college (BC, SUNY, Stanford, UCLA, Brown, NYU, Columbia, RPI, UConn, Cornell, UDel just to name a few).
As for my credentials, I have a BS in Physics, with a minor in math
, and education from the University of California San Diego, UCSD. During my time in California I was an assistant teacher for both a sixth and eighth grade science
class. I have been tutoring both college and high school physics and math for about five years. I recently finished my graduate program at Stony Brook University and received a Masters in Education for teaching physics. I was also a TA in the physics department at Stony Brook, where I had to opportunity to teach college level physics. On top of this, I am a New York State Certified Physics teacher, and teach AP physics
B1/B2/C, Regents physics, Regents chemistry, and intro to engineering.
At the moment I teach physics at one of the best high school in New York state (in the top three). On top of this, I am a summer lecturer (adjunct professor) in Physics at Stony Brook University.
As you may already tell from the last paragraph, tutoring is not my primary job. I do it more as a hobby, which I have enjoyed doing over the years. This is why I charge so little given my credentials. That being written, coupled with my busy schedule, I am a highly selective tutor. I apologize in advance if I am unable to be of service to you.
As for recreational activities, I enjoy rock climbing, tennis
, solving puzzles, learning to play the piano
, and cycling. I thank you for reading
through all of this, and I invite you to email me any questions or concerns.
With warm regards,
To my College Level Students,
The following subjects are what I tutor: General Physics, Classical Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Thermal physics, Statistical physics, Optics, General Chemistry, Advance Calculus
, Linear Algebra
, Differential Equations
, Partial Differential Equations, Complex analysis, real analysis, and finally computational/mathematical physics.
