While living abroad in South Korea for three years, I received ample experience and knowledge teaching ESL to students of all ages. My CELTA certification helped me create lesson plans that focused my energy into creating student-centered environments that were engaging and fun. I adapted Cutting Edge and Headway textbooks to fit the level and needs of my students. The result was that each lesson was dynamic; the comfortable environment made students eager to learn. All of the students were proud of their work and I was exceedingly proud of them.
As an English literature teacher, I had to implement a curriculum from scratch and properly assess students using a wide range of criterion pulled from different sources. My CELTA background helped me in creating a consistent rubric in which to evaluate students with. I created an after-school reading program that catered to students who wanted to improve their reading comprehension more. I implemented various technologies, such as Popplet, into the classroom as a way to graphically organize their ideas; it gave the students the tools necessary to apply their ideas within the framework of an increasingly technological world.
During my time spent in South Korea, I always made an effort to share my Latin American and Bosnian cultural roots to my students. I believe learning a new language works both ways: student and teachers must both be open to the conduit of possibility for knowledge and cultural exchange. Throughout my time teaching, I have constantly made sure to seek out students on an individual basis to address their needs and concerns.
My hours of availability are flexible, and I'm willing to commute to your desired location, especially in Queens and Manhattan. I'm fifteen minutes away from Manhattan by subway.
I look forward to hearing from you soon, and possibly meeting you in person to discuss this opportunity further. Thank you and good luck with all of your future endeavors!
