Teaching and learning have always been passions of mine. I think they're the reason we exist. I bring my passion for learning with me everywhere I go, and I make it my goal to awaken that same passion within my students by holding them to an unwavering standard of excellence, tempered by patience and bolstered by the belief that every student has both the desire and the capacity to succeed. Learning is a joy for everyone, but everyone learns differently, which is why with every student I work with, I first figure out how they learn and then structure the tutoring plan accordingly so that they, too, will love to learn.
I graduated Magna Cum Laude with honors from Wright State University with a 3.75 GPA and scored a composite 2330 on the SAT, including a perfect score in reading, but those numbers are not important to me. What's important to me is the work I have done, in particular my work with an at-risk student in my home town back in Texas.
When working with this young man, who was in danger of being held over in his grade, I noted some unusual reading difficulties and referred him to an assessor who diagnosed him with dyslexia, empowering him by giving him a framework within which to approach his learning. The change was night and day. At the end of the year, he not only graduated, but rose two grade levels in reading comprehension. Our work together succeeded, because I paid attention to him and refused to write him off as his teachers had. I promise to bring this same level of dedication to all of my students, no matter their innate abilities.
While most of my experience is with high schoolers and grade schoolers, I can work effectively with any age from 9 to 99. I specialize in reading, writing, Spanish, music theory, and study/organizational skills. If you want a tutor who will help you succeed and have great fun doing it, look no further.
