I am currently completing my Ph.D. in American religious history (minor in sociology). I also hold an MA in American religious history (minor in theology) and a BA in English (minor in religion). I have taught and tutored students from elementary school all the way through graduate school. I have designed and taught courses for gifted middle and high school students, undergraduates, and graduate students. I have worked with incoming international college students on writing and study skills, and I have assisted professors and graduate school colleagues with their research projects. I am a clear communicator, a strong writer, an insightful reader, a thorough proofreader and editor, and a dedicated, results-oriented educator. As a tutor/teacher, I am friendly, patient, and engaged. I would love to work with you to formulate a customized learning plan!

Algebra 1

Throughout elementary, middle, and high school, I scored in the 95th percentile or above in standardized math tests. I am a strong, quick thinker and am able to explain difficult mathematical concepts with great clarity.

I am an avid reader and lover of language. I have always possessed very strong reading comprehension skills, and I have helped students at various levels to become better readers by discussing and explaining what concepts to look for while reading (thesis, argument, evidence, etc.).

I hold an MA in Religion from the University of Georgia and am a Ph.D. candidate in Religion at Vanderbilt University. I also earned a religion minor as an undergraduate at Davidson College. I have served as a teaching assistant in college courses addressing world religions, Western religious thought, American religious history, theology, Ancient and Medieval Christianity, Reformation-era Christianity, and denominational history. I have also taught introductory courses in Western religions and American religious history and politics.

SAT Reading

I am an avid reader and lover of language. I took the SAT multiple times in high school and each time scored above the 85th percentile in the reading and language sections.

Social Studies

I have designed and taught courses in history, religious studies, and social studies for gifted high school and middle school students. I have an advanced degree in American religious history, which requires an extensive knowledge of history and social sciences.

I have always been an impeccable speller and have a keen eye for spelling and grammar errors. I have a strong understanding of the English language and am often able to explain why a word has a particular spelling based on roots and related words.

Study Skills

I taught a summer course for incoming international students at Vanderbilt University School of Engineering in college writing, study skills, and time management. I taught a remedial seminar for divinity school students this past year to help them develop strong study habits. I have also worked individually with my own students to improve their study skills.

I am a native English speaker who has taught basic writing and English language skills to English language learners. I am able to explain difficult language concepts clearly.
