I have been a professional musician for many years and through learning and performing music I have learned how to learn faster and more securely , how to build the confidence to perform, and the skills to perform under pressure. I have been a professional musician for over twenty years and I have been teaching equally as long. I have enjoyed teaching at every level from adult students to college to elementary age.

I have had extensive experience with music theory. I have studied it since I started playing the piano over 25 years ago. All through my undergraduate and master's degrees in music I took not only the required classes but also several advanced theory classes. My skills in theory help me out very often when studying and learning music, and I am able to teach them in a clear and concise way.

Composition (Music)

I am qualified to teach composition for several reasons the first is because of my education. I have a Bachelor's degree in Music Education, and a Master's degree in Piano Performance. I am qualified to tutor in general music because my bachelors degree in music education trained me to teach that class. I also have experience teaching general music classes at both the elementary and high school levels in NY State public schools. I believe that general music is part of a thorough education in music, and can be a lot of fun when you recognize how it relates to real life.

Music History

I am qualified to tutor Music History as I have taken all of the required music history courses in both my undergraduate degree of music education and my masters degree in piano performance plus several extra courses. I have studied a general overview of all of the styles as well as several more in depth classes as well as reading and studying about music history in my spare time (yes, its true). I also have taken enough courses in my master's degree to receive a concentration in Music History.

I am qualified to tutor on piano as I am currently a professional pianist. Sight Singing

Sight singing is a valuable part of any musicians training. I have taken all of my courses in undergraduate (4), plus I was able to pass out of it in grad school. However, not by natural talent, I learned away to do it that I can easily pass along. It is able to easily learn, and has to do with the relationships from one note to the other. Also having sang in several choirs and vocal groups I understand the importance of being able to solfege, and how it can be used to help you learn quickly.

Swimming

I am qualified to help with swimming because not only did I take swimming lessons for years when I was a child, I also swam on my high school swim team. While I was on the team we were the section championship team for two years, and I also swam in both years at the state meet,I swam the freestyle relay both years and the second year I also won the 100 yard breaststroke.
