Hello!

I'm Joanna and I could be the one to help you improve your writing skills!

I graduated from SUNY New Paltz, summa cum laude, with a bachelor's degree in English. While at New Paltz, I was a tutor for English and writing, including conversation partners for study abroad students, for 5 semesters. I am now attending Queens College and am finishing my master's degree in library and information science. I am new to MyzAnt, and look forward to helping students improve their reading and writing. Whether it is for a class assignment, to improve SAT scores, or for their own pleasure, knowing how to communicate through writing is a skill that will help students no matter what type of career they choose to go into.

My philosophy when it comes to tutoring is to put myself out of a job. I would like students to learn to find their own mistakes and recognize where improvements can be made without the help of a tutor.

In addition to tutoring, I also enjoy running. I have run track and field since my freshman year of high school, and was on the cross country team for 4 seasons at New Paltz. Since my time at New Paltz has ended, I have continued to run and have completed two half marathons and two full marathons. My fastest marathon time was 3:33:52.

Reading

As an English major and an avid reader, I have had a lot of practice with reading comprehension.

I will help you gain skills in understanding and remembering what you read. I believe the best way to demonstrate that you both remember and understand words on a page, is to explain what you read aurally, as well as through writing and answering multiple questions.

As an English major, I had a lot of practice with reading and writing. I was exposed to many types of literature, and learned how to read with a critical and analytical eye. I also have experience putting the thoughts and feelings I had while reading into words. I want to help others learn these skills, so they can enjoy and appreciate the world of writing as much as I do. But most of all, I want to show that no matter what your interests, English can be fun and enjoyed by everyone!

Track & Field

I started running my freshman year of high school. During my high school career, my race distances of choice were 1,500 and 3,000 meters.

I was also on the cross country team in college and was named captain my senior year. I was also on the track club and typically ran 5,000 meters, and occasionally ran 1,500. My best time for a 5k was 20:33.
