Charles C. has been making a name for himself in the music business for the past 14 years. Whether it’s sessions, performance, educating or composing, his story has and continues to ignite his own success. Before graduating from Purchase College in 2001 with a BA in Studio Composition, Charles had the opportunity to work with and study under multi-Grammy nominee Joe Ferry and his biggest musical mentor to date, James McElwaine. He then took this acquired knowledge and utilized it to its fullest potential.

After becoming acquainted with Peter Baron, former guitarist for Mountain and the Leslie West Band, Charles started working on projects at Tribeca Artist Records. Upon Charles’ and Mr. Baron’s musical relationship becoming frequent, he found his tasks would include recording sessions, shooting one of the first High Definition music videos, and performing in NYC’s International Culture Parade.

Charles moved to Atlanta in early 2002 and there he became one of the most respected teachers at Ponier music. He immediately took his responsibilities to the next level by starting his own program called Band Camp; putting together bands of children and young adults while directing them both musically and creatively to express their art in live venues. During his time in Atlanta he shared the stage with Cliff Davies (Ted Nugent Band) performing jazz standards and worked side by side with Tyrone Jackson (Wynton Marsalis).

Charles left Atlanta in 2004 and returned to his home in NYC to join musical outfit Dr. Hourai. This progressive punk/metal band had signed with Angry Penguin Records and toured nationally playing such venues as Van’s Warped Tour. Album sales reached their peak over seas and Dr. Hourai’s merchandise was being sold and promoted at both Ozzfest and Warped Tour. With college radio stations quickly picking up their singles all over the country and internet radio making its debut, Dr. Hourai found themselves to be the subject of conversation in the punk rock scene all over the world. Reviews of the album “Post Apocolyptic Nightmares” were being featured in Revolver and Alternative Press Magazines. The song “Half Beating the Midi Frequencers” hit number 1 on punkradiocast.com’s top 40 countdown, and their fans outvoted such acts as NOFX, Lagwagon, and Rancid. During this time Charles had the opportunity to record with producer Don Fury of Cyclone Sound; a producer who had Sonic Youth, Quicksand, and Glassjaw in his portfolio just to name a few. With Angry Penguin Records becoming a huge success as a comic book character, Dr Hourai was soon being promoted at Comicon conventions and their video for “No Offense None Taken” was being played at the NYC Anime Festival.

In the past decade Charles has been a teacher and mentor to well over one thousand students. Many of which have become future pupils at reputable music universities throughout the country. He currently is a multi-instrument music director for the world renowned and highly reputable Harvey School and composes original music for productions that are performed there every summer.

He is involved in many new music projects including his new band The East Coast Fling and a side project with his newly found musical partner Sammi Garett.
