One thing I have learned from my experience in education, both as a provider and a receiver, is that teaching/tutoring is as much of an art as it is a skill. Everyone has different learning aptitudes and interests so it becomes imperative for a tutor to adapt to student's needs. I, for one, have been doing my best in my three years of tutoring experience to mold myself to my student's needs.
You may be interested to note that I have tutoring experience in introductory biology, chemistry, statistics, and algebra. I also have a strong laboratory research background which helps me put information presented in textbooks with a practical perspective to my students. I believe this helps them in learning better as the information gets less abstract.
In my previous capacity as instructional support assistant at State University of New York at Plattsburgh, I got an opportunity to help students, who came from weak academic backgrounds, adjust to college. I was able to raise their self belief by being more patient and encouraging, the two most important qualities of a tutor, I believe. Having tutored and motivated countless number of students with different aptitudes, I am confident in my ability to help students achieve a better result, and justify the position of a tutor.
