My name is Michael and I am a Russian and Ukrainian speaker from the University of Kansas. I recently moved to New York City in hope of finding like-minded individuals interested in Russian language and culture. I began studying Russian at the age of 17 and continued until my final year at the University of Kansas in 2008. Moreover, I studied abroad for a summer in St. Petersburg, Russia, and additionally I studied three years of Ukrainian and spent a year abroad in L'viv, Ukraine.
I have a strong language and cultural background, and I am deeply interested in issues concerning Russian identity, foreign policy, literature and economics in addition to Russia's role in global security matters since the end of the Cold War. I am interested in working with students with an ardent interest in Russian Area Studies in addition to Russians and Russian-speakers who are interested in improving their English.
I have excellent interpersonal skills and believe in hands-on tutoring and conversing about a wide range of topics in order to acquire ample vocabulary and the ability to produce complex syntax. I should also note that during my time at the University of Kansas I worked at the Applied English Center as a conversation leader with non-native speakers of English looking to improve their conversational English.
