I have been teaching piano for the past 5 years, and playing for over 15 years. In Los Angeles, I ran my own private studio out of students' homes. This included teaching approximately 35 students each week, as well as presenting 2 yearly recitals. My students have been early beginners as young as 3 years old, all the way to adults wishing to explore music lessons. I believe in keeping music fun and enjoyable by teaching students songs they already know, as well as basic piano technique. I do use the Alfred method books, but also incorporate many of my own activities and worksheets. I can also provide excellent references from past students as to my reliability, teaching skills, and enthusiasm for music.
I have been teaching voice for over 8 years. Sight singing is something I include as a part of my lessons. I am a skilled sight reader and have many valuable techniques that I pass on to my students.
I am a skilled theatre teacher and have taught acting in Los Angeles and Chicago. I graduated from North Central College with a double major in Musical Theatre and Speech Communication. I have worked as a professional actress in theatres in the Midwest and on the West Coast including: Bailiwick Repertory, Pheasant Run Dinner Theatre, Attic Theatre, Downey Civic Light Opera, as well as many others.
I have also managed children's theatre companies for several performing arts schools. This included directing and writing shows for children ages 5-15. I have experience teaching various levels of acting classes for Kids Onstage, The Dance Center, School of Performing Arts, among others. I have run monologue workshops, have taught singers how to act a song, and keep theatre fun and enjoyable through improv exercises and games.
I am a professional singer, and have studied voice for more than 16 years. I hold a BA in Musical Theatre from North Central College, and have performed National Anthems for Chicago Cubs and White Sox, sung in musical productions in Chicago and Los Angeles, and performed with Shania Twain. I am classically trained, but am extremely versatile and can perform opera, musical theatre, pop, and country styles.
I have been teaching voice for 8 years. Currently, I am a voice teacher for several companies in the NYC area. I also teach students in their homes. I believe strongly in healthy vocal production in EVERY style of singing, and work with students to build a solid technique while also helping them discover a love of singing and performing.
