My name is Danielle, I'm 23 years old, and I graduated NYU last year. I majored in Dramatic Literature, which I explain as essentially an English major with a concentration in Theatre.
I enjoy reading and writing, and believe strong skills in both are necessary to succeed in anything. In addition, I understand that elementary school lays the foundation for everything else a child learns in school. I love children (I have a younger brother and six younger cousins, all of whom I babysit on a regular basis) and have experience helping young family members and other children with homework. In recent babysitting jobs, I had specific job duties to assist the kids in their homework each afternoon. Additionally, I studied abroad in London this past semester, where I volunteered at a primary school as a teacher's assistant in a Year Two class of six year olds.
English and the arts have always been my strengths, and I plan to pursue a career in arts administration. I attended a performing arts overnight camp for seven years where I performed in sixteen full-scale musicals, and received acting, voice, and dance training. In my last two summers I assistant directed three productions in which the youngest campers performed. In high school, I learned music theory and sight singing for three years in choir, as well as in my extracurricular voice lessons. My choir class involved assisting other students who were struggling with music theory before any tests. I participated in the NYSSMA All-State competition my junior year of high school as a vocal soloist and received a score of 97/100. While I have never taken formal piano lessons, I can read music proficiently and can sight read piano music relevant to sight singing, music theory, etc.
I grew up with a younger brother and 6 younger cousins, all of whom I babysat and tutored frequently. I have helped with general homework support and tutored specific subjects if a child needed more specialized help, both as part of regular babysitting jobs and as just a tutor. I also worked as a camp counselor for two summers, volunteered as a teaching assistant at a primary school in London, and worked as an assistant teacher in children's acting classes, so I have a wide range of experience working with children.
I have owned a Mac laptop for 5 years and have experience with transitioning from a PC to a Mac. I tutored senior citizens in computer skills on Macs this past year. Application-specific experience includes iMovie editing, iTunes/iPod setup, Microsoft Office for Mac, and Open Office for Mac.
I grew up using various versions of Windows on a PC and continue to use it at work. I am experienced in troubleshooting issues with printers, software installations, and other common issues. Additionally, I tutored senior citizens in computer skills on both PC and Mac.
I am a lifelong voracious reader, and my college major consisted of nothing but reading and writing. My SAT, ACT, and GRE test scores all demonstrate my ability in reading comprehension and all verbal skills, and I enjoy reading on top of it being an academic strength.
Throughout college, I consistently honed my time management and study skills. I became especially skilled at balancing the requirements of long and short term assignments simultaneously, and at tracking long term projects along the way. My major was incredibly writing-intensive, so I am particularly experienced in research papers, but those same skills can easily be applied to things like oral presentations or more creative projects.
I was a Dramatic Literature major in college, which I describe as an English major who reads plays instead of novels, so I have extensive knowledge of theatre history. I have held multiple internships in the Literary offices of theatre companies, which involved reading and evaluating script submissions in order to determine what the theatre should produce. Additionally, I performed in well over a dozen plays and musicals throughout high school and college, so I can coach audition technique as well.
