Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (Enrolled)
I am currently attending Union Graduate College where I am earning my teaching degree for high school physics. I am an Eagle Scout and graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) where I earned my Master of Science in Materials Engineering. I also earned my B.S. from RPI graduating Cum Laude. As an undergraduate I was a member of the Materials Science honors society, Alpha Sigma Mu and a brother of Alpha Phi Omega, a community service fraternity. As an engineer my curriculum was heavy in math and sciences.
Being a student and current teacher, I believe that I offer a unique perspective compared to "professional" tutors. As a student, I am able to relate to other students and determine what makes a subject or concept difficult. I understand what methods of conveying a concept seem to be confusing and ineffective on the receiving end and frequent discussion with other students about class materials also enables me to find many different ways to explain the same concept. My experience as a TA has taught me to effectively and confidently communicate in a way that seems to inspire a fundamental understanding. Feedback from students and parents has been highly positive.
I am an excellent fit with SUNY Albany, RPI, or HVCC students. Specific courses I have had much success in are:
All Common Core Mathematics
Calculus 1 and 2
Introduction to Differential Equations
Physics 1 and 2
Materials Science for Engineers
Strength of Materials
Engineering Graphics and CAD

Steven has done a great job with my daughter in a short period working with her on Applied Statics and Strength of Materials. He was very flexible with his schedule and patient in working thru her study needs.
My daughter was comfortable working with Steven.
Steve is an excellent tutor! Not only does he really understand chemistry, but he can communicate that knowledge clearly and effectively. He is enthusiastic about the subject. He is both flexible and considerate as well. I highly recommend him.
Steven was a great calculus tutor. He was very knowledgeable about the subject matter and patient with my concerns. I was having particular difficulty with a certain section of Calculus BC and Steven was able to essentially teach me the material. I will definitely use Steven again!
You couldn't ask for a better math tutor, very knowledgeable, professional, and patient. I would highly recommend him to anyone.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Earning my M.S. in engineering required the frequent use of mathematics at this level. In my college differential equations course I earned an A and was very proficient in the subject matter. As a tutor I have been successful in all areas I have taught.
Growing up in New York, I was subjected to Regents examinations many times. As a result I am familiar and proficient with the style of these examinations.
As an engineer, I am still highly qualified in the areas of math and science.
Here is a list of the Regents material I am comfortable covering as well as the scores I received on the exams in High School.
Course 1 - 97
Course 2 - 97
Course 3 - 99
These courses cover Geometry, Algebra, and Trigonometry. They are now taught as Mathematics A and B.
Chemistry - 94
Physics - 96
Steven C. passed a background check on 2/5/14. The check was ordered by Steven through First Advantage. For more information, please review the background check information page.
After sending a message to Steven, you will be able to order a new background check for $7.99. As part of your tutor selection process, we encourage you to run updated background checks. Please also review the safety tips for hiring tutors.
